SENIORS COMMISSION ANNOUNCES
FIELD HEARING SCHEDULE

Washington, D.C. - The congressional Commission on Affordable Housing and Health Facility Needs for Seniors in the 21st Century, also known as the "Seniors Commission," will be conducting eight field hearings to gather vital information across the spectrum of senior housing and health issues over the next fourteen months. Each field hearing will cover specific themes relating to the congressionally mandated mission of the commission. The hearings will include panel discussions relating to the theme of each hearing as well as a public input section covering a broader range of senior housing and health-related issues.

September 24, 2001 Columbus, Ohio
November 7, 2001 San Diego, California
January 2002 Miami, Florida
March 2002 Dallas, Texas
May 2002 Boston, Massachusetts
June 2002 Denver, Colorado
July 2002 Baltimore, Maryland

"I am pleased that we have moved very quickly to establish our regional field hearing schedule. We hope to collect extensive, valuable information and creative ideas that will be central to our report," noted Commission Co-chair Nancy Hooks of Albany, New York. "The hearing process is essential as we develop a proposal for the future delivery of senior housing and health services, and shape policy for the next generation." Co-chair Ellen Feingold of Boston, Massachusetts added, "This set of field hearings cover a geographically diverse area and should help the commission collect data for all elements of its mission. We will be identifying those programs that work well and finding ways to enhance their effectiveness as well as exploring other options."

The regional field hearing locations and schedule was established approximately one month after the inaugural meeting of the full commission in Washington, demonstrating the intense enthusiasm for the work and opportunities ahead felt by all commissioners.
