Where to Write for Vital Records
Uncle Sam does not distribute copies of birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce papers or other documents that are issued by the states. However, he does the next best thing. The Consumer Information Center has an easy-to-use online list of all state offices of vital statistics, complete with mailing address, fees, phone numbers and tips for getting the records you want. So, if you're working on your family tree, or need to replace your lost birth certificate so you can apply for Social Security, this webpage is for you.

PostOffice Online Will Print,
Stuff, and Deliver Your Bulk Mail

Here's a service that small and home-based businesses will love. You write the letter and develop the bulk mailing labels. Send them to the Postal Service from your PC. The Postal Service will send the electronic documents to commercial printers to prepare for mailing. Under test now in several cities, the new service will also allow you to pay by credit card when you place the order. It's easy, fast, and competitively priced. See a demo on this site. Look for nationwide service in the summer of 1999.

Teaching With Technology
The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded Schools for a New Millennium grants to 20 schools nationwide. They will become models of how to use computer technology to enrich teaching of the humanities. NEH also maintains EDSITEment, a gateway site that presents the 49 best sites out of more than 65,000 humanities-related sites. Each site comes with lesson plans offering suggestions on how to use the materials effectively in the classroom.

Interior's Online Personnel Manager
Interior's Personnel Manager website is an electronic handbook containing a variety of frequently-used forms and other information for federal workers, personnelists, and supervisors. You'll find forms or guidelines for requesting leave, donating leave, designating a beneficiary for your thrift savings plan, requesting a desk audit, writing job descriptions, classifying jobs, to name a few.
