POSTAL SERVICE OFFERS
ELECTRONIC BILLING AND PAYMENT
WASHINGTON-The
U.S. Postal Service today formalized agreements with CheckFree Corporation
and YourAccounts.Com, a division of Output Technology Solutions
(OTS), to offer its customers electronic billing and payment as
another way of fulfilling its mission as the country's trusted third
party and universal service provider. The new service, known as
USPS(tm)eBillPay,
is available beginning today.
"Since the
earliest days of this country, the Postal Service has been there
to connect Americans in every neighborhood and city with each other.
Today we are reaching out to make sure that universal service is
also available in our country's newest community, the on-line community,"
said Postmaster General William J. Henderson.
"No one knows
how quickly Americans will change their habits," says Henderson,
"but it is certain that the generation that has grown up with PCs,
will move to transacting business on the Internet."
"Our people
and our organization will ensure secure, reliable service via the
Internet with the same level of commitment we have delivered on
paper for more than 200 years," added Henderson. "Working with technology
and financial electronic commerce leaders from the private sector
is the best way to leverage the Internet, and the best way to explore
opportunities for efficiency, cost and time savings for our customers,"
he continued.
Customers can
find out more information and sign-up for the new service online
at the Postal Service's web site www.usps.com
