MEDIA ADVISORY

SENIORS COMMISSION TO HOLD FIELD HEARING IN SAN DIEGO

Federal panel in Southern California to gather information, study important new data on impact of coordinated senior housing and health services and prepare report to Congress.

The Commission on Affordable Housing and Health Facility Needs for Seniors in the 21st Century - "the Seniors Commission" - will hold a field hearing in San Diego to examine the housing and health care services needs of seniors in America, and to examine new data on the impact of coordinated housing and health services for older Americans. The hearing will feature testimony from senior citizens advocates, Federal, state and local elected officials (invited), housing and health policy experts, leading researchers and actress Sally Struthers and other family caregivers who have faced difficult choices in seeking the best possible housing and health care for their parents, grandparents and other loved ones.

The entire session is open to the public and, following the testimony of expert witnesses; there will be an "open mike" for concerned citizens to speak to the commissioners.

The "Seniors Commission" was created by an act of Congress to study and report back to the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate on the housing and health needs for the next generation of older Americans. The Commission is empowered to offer specific policy and legislative recommendations for enhancing services and increasing the available housing for this important and growing segment of our society.
