Public Meeting
July 22, 2004
Washington, DC

Below is a brief description of the sixteenth public meeting. The minutes will be posted when they become available.

The urgent need for decisive action on a new national ocean policy and approval of the Draft Final Report were the focus of the sixteenth public meeting of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy held on July 22, 2004. At the meeting, the Commission unanimously approved its Draft Final Report and directed staff to prepare the Final Report for delivery to the President and Congress within the next several weeks.

The Final Report will include a number of modifications to the recommendations and text contained in the Commission’s Preliminary Report, which was released on April 20, 2004. The changes were made in response to comments received from 37 governors, five tribal leaders, one regional governors association, 800 interested stakeholders and other technical experts.
