Science Advisory Panel
The Oceans Act of 2000 specifically tasked the Commission with establishing a Science Advisory Panel to assist the Commission in preparing its report and to ensure "...that the scientific information considered by the Commission is based on the best scientific information available.î The Commission approved the panelís charter at its January 15, 2002, meeting in Charleston, South Carolina. The panel membership was approved by the Commission at its Florida-Caribbean Region meeting held on February 22, 2002, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Membership
The
composition of the Science Advisory Panel was determined by the Commissioners
with advice from the National Academy of Sciences and reflects the breadth
of issues before the Commission and the Working Group structure adopted
at the Commissions first meeting.
