The
weather outside your car is frightful, but inside, the humming
heater is keeping you snug and warm while your favorite music blares from
all four stereo speakers. Life is good
unless there's an emergency
vehicle or approaching train vying for your attention. Will you hear the
siren or whistle in time to avoid disaster? Thanks to a technology transfer
partnership between NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena,
California and E-Lite Limited of Agoura Hills, California, your chances
are better than ever.
Jim Davidson,
president and CEO of E-Lite Limited, knows first-hand the dangers of high-speed
vehicles. Not long ago, the car he was driving was nearly broad-sided
by a fire truck at a Los Angeles intersection. In fact, more than 156,000
accidents involving emergency vehicles alone occurred from the mid-1980's
to 1995. "Emergency vehicles present a serious hazard to themselves,
other vehicles, and pedestrians while passing against cross-traffic through
an intersection," Davidson reported, not to mention causing multi-million
dollar lawsuits against cities and states, too.
Introducing
E-ViEWS
The Emergency Vehicle
Early Warning Safety System (E-ViEWS) is a new traffic technology device
that warns motorists if emergency vehicles or trains are approaching rapidly.
And, with the increase in high-speed police chases and train/auto collisions,
it couldn't come at a better time. Best of all, it costs motorists nothing!
