PRESIDENT'S MENTAL HEALTH COMMISSION
TO MEET IN CHICAGO
President Bush's "New Freedom Commission on Mental Health"; will
hold its fourth meeting September 10-12, 2002 in Chicago, Illinois.
The commission will hear presentations on various aspects of the mental
health system that affect children and adolescents, including trauma
and its impact; mental health programs in schools; and community-based
programs. In addition, the commission will hear from a panel of youth
who will describe their experiences with the mental health system.
The September event also will include site visits to several Chicago
area mental health programs, and marks the first meeting the commission
will convene away from Washington, D.C. The Presidential commission
is charged with conducting a comprehensive study of the mental health
services delivery system in the United States. The commission, consisting
of 15 members appointed by President Bush and seven ex-officio members,
is chaired by Michael F. Hogan, Ph.D., Director, Ohio Department of
Mental Health.
