Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce Opens Registration for San Francisco Meeting

Arlington, Virginia, November 10, 1999 -- The Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce encourages the public to attend its meeting December 14-15, 1999, in San Francisco. The meeting is free and open to the public, and anyone wishing to attend should pre-register on the Commission's Web site at www.ecommercecommission.org.

The Commission is scheduled to meet December 14, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and December 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held both days in the Colonial Room on the Mezzanine Floor of the Westin St. Francis Hotel, 335 Powell Street, in San Francisco. Registration will be held adjacent to the Colonial Room beginning one hour before the start of the meeting each day. The meeting will be Webcast on the Commission's Web site. An agenda will be posted on the Web site in advance of the meeting.

The Commission has blocked a limited number of rooms at the St. Francis Hotel until November 18, for anyone wishing to attend the meeting. Reservations may be made directly with the hotel at (415) 397-7000 or with Westin at (800) WESTIN-1. The rate is $175 per room per night. Callers must ask reservation operators for this rate and specify the Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce.

About the Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce

Appointed by Congress in October 1998 as part of the Internet Tax Freedom Act, the 19-member Commission has been tasked with studying the impact of federal, state, local and international taxation and tariffs on transactions using the Internet and Internet access. The Commission's recommendations are due to Congress next April. The Commission met in Williamsburg, Virginia, in June and New York City in September. Its final meeting will be March 20-21 in Dallas.
