The National Scope

In 1990, the census missed more than 8.4 million people. The majority of those overlooked were children, the poor and people of color. The 1990 census missed

  • 4.4 percent of African Americans,
  • 5 percent of Hispanics,
  • 2.3 percent of Asians and Pacific Islanders, and
  • over 12 percent of Native Americans.
