US
State & Local Gateway Marks Its First Birthday
January
11, 1999--One year ago this month, 20 federal agencies and seven
associations representing state and local government employees launched
the US State & Local Gateway. This one-stop website has federal
information that state and local government employees need to do
their jobs. Users from Alabama to Wyoming think it's great. "WOW,"
said Marc Overbeck, Workforce Development, Salem, Oregon. "What
a great entry point for finding resources and tools, especially
best practices."
Taking
Winter by Storm
If
the weather outside is awful, residents of Seattle, King County,
and Washington State can go online to get the chilling details in
one place. City, County and State Transportation Departments have
teamed up to create "GovLink," a collaborative website that provides
dozens of winter weather links to agency response operations and
personal preparedness.
"Access
with Trust" Is Online
January 5, 1999--A
new report, Access With Trust, describes a technology essential
to achieving the Access America vision of providing electronic access
to government services by 2000. "Public/private key" technology
provides important tools for agencies working to replace paper forms,
toll-free telephone lines, and mail-in envelopes with totally electronic
services. This report was published by the Government Information
Technology Services Board, the Office of Management and Budget,
and the Federal Public Key Infrastructure Steering Committee. The
document is available at http://gits-sec.treas.gov.

of the National Institutes of Health. On December 11, 1998--World
Asthma Day--the Institute launched the Asthma Management Model System.
