website awards. The agency's main Homes and Communities website
received the first E-Citizen Services Award from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology. And other awards just kept coming.
Two
Federal Libraries Share Award
National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Central Library shared the
Library of the Year award with the Los Alamos National Laboratory
Research Library. The NOAA Library organized over 500 NOAA websites
under one locator and created a digital image library of meteorological
images from the 1800s to the 1950s. Los Alamos collaborated to develop
a browsable interface for categorizing its science and technology
Web resources to create the foundation for an Internet portal.

America Online Magazine team received Vice President
Gore's Hammer Award on October 4, 1999.
PulseNet
Wins Innovations in American Government Award
PulseNet,
the Centers for Disease Control's foodborne illness detection system,
was named one of 10 winners of the Innovations in American Government
Awards last month. PulseNet standardized the way labs trace bacteria,
and took the process a step further by digitizing the information
so that it can be shared electronically, similar to a bar code.
The program received a $100,000 award and recognition as one of
the nation's best examples of government performance.
New
Immigration History Webpage Gets Award
Are you
interested in finding out more about your family's history? Millions
of Americans trace their history to an immigrant. Turn to the recently-redesigned
Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) website. Its History,
Genealogy and Education page received a Family History Favorite
Award in September from "Ancestry.com Daily News."

Award
The
Consumer Product Safety Commission, one of three 1998 federal winners
of the Innovations
in American Government Award , offers tips on the Federal Communicators
Network website on how to apply for the prestigious program. The
deadline for the 2000 Innovations in American Government awards
competition is Monday, January 10, 2000 for paper submissions and
Monday, January 17, 2000, for electronically submitted applications.
