What
People Are Saying
"I
just spent several hours going through all the different
sections. I even downloaded a form to request my great-grandfather's
Alien Registration Records. It's something I have been meaning
to do for some time now and this gave me the opportunity
to finally do it." -- Reviewer for Ancestry.com Daily News

Are
you interested in finding out more about your family's history?
Millions of Americans trace their family history to an immigrant.
Turn
to the recently-redesigned Immigration and Naturalization Service
(INS) website. Its History, Genealogy
and Education page received a Family History Favorite Award
in September from "Ancestry.com Daily News."
Here's their review:
"This well-organized new section of the INS website provides researchers
with record location information, historical background, helpful
articles, a glossary of terms, and guides to various immigration
records. Many of the guides are illustrated with images of actual
records making it extremely helpful."
The
reviewer added a personal note in the e-mail notifying Marian
Smith, the INS Historian. Ms. Smith created the History, Genealogy
and Education page and manages its content.
"I
just spent several hours going through all the different sections,"
the reviewer wrote. "I even downloaded a form to request my great-grandfather's
Alien Registration Records. It's something I have been meaning
to do for some time now and this gave me the opportunity to finally
do it. Congratulations on a job well done."
According
to the INS, the History, Genealogy and Education page contains
information about the INS Historical Reference Library collection
and services, documents concerning the history of the Service
as well as of immigration law, procedure, and immigration stations,
and instructions for historical and genealogical research using
INS records. It will also be the future home of information and
resources designed for the use of primary and secondary school
teachers.
