CPA Funds Projects in Tikrit

TIKRIT, IRAQ – Coalition Provisional Authority announced on April 22nd, the approval of $1.7 million to be used for projects in the Salad Al Din province. While meeting in Tikrit with the Salad Al Din province’s head engineer and a district engineer, Governorate Coordinator Mark R. Kennon also informed the engineers of an extra grant of $4 million approved by Ambassador Paul L. Bremer. Most of the money the CPA uses to help develop Iraq comes from the Local Governance fund and Rapid Regional Response fund. All together the CPA has given over $10 million dollars for projects in the province, and has $5 million more dollars to devote to helping rebuild Iraq before June 30th.

The engineers provide the CPA with prioritized lists of projects complete with assessments every week. These projects range from refurbishing hospitals complete with ambulances to equipping police officers. The lists reflect the value of importance the local council members place on each project. The members in turn serve the people of the community and help instill reality to the democratic system.
