NAJAF PROVINCE RECEIVES MONEY FOR WATER PROJECT REPAIRS

Najaf, Iraq. The Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Najaf recently awarded more than $125,000 for community initiatives to develop new water networks and repair existing water infrastructure.

The water projects will help people in 8 communities, representing more than 23,500 Iraqis. Specifically, schools and religious shrines will benefit from the major repairs. CPA learned of the needs by working closely with people in these communities, as well as the Spanish Governance Support Team.

The local Iraqi contractors used for these projects were chosen from a competitive bidding process. All the money is given in increments, and as the work is properly completed, more money will be given to the Iraqi contractors. Seized from the former regime assets, the money is now being used for the Iraqi people.

Assisting the people in Najaf Province remains an important goal for the Coalition Provisional Authority. It represents part of a larger initiative to help Iraqis as they move toward democracy and a sovereign government. CPA-Najaf will announce additional funding projects in the coming weeks.
