Subject: Fair Tax benefits Comment: I'm 23 years old. I have a lifetime of decisions ahead of me. The government should not be in the business of social engineering through taxation. With the Fair Tax, the decisions are left up to the people. If I want to save up for a new home or for my retirement, I can make purchasing decisions that enable me to achieve these goals. I do not need complex tax-advantages to get there. Why are Americans punished for work and making money (as we are by the income tax)? This country has trouble brewing in its skyrocketing personal debt. Personal savings, on the other hand, is slumping. Americans will consume things, taxed or not; we like new things. Why do we enable illegal aliens and drug dealers to enjoy tax free income and the American way of life without contributing back to society. The prebate system will not reward illegals. Taxing all consumption will force even our most dubious citizens to support the national government. If taxes are applied at every purchase, Americans will be more aware of the costs of government. The income tax is a sneaky way to take money from citizens. The Fair Tax is up-front and honest for all. It's simple and reduces bureaucracy. Fair Tax strengthens non-profit groups by allowing them to avoid taxes on their purchases. They do not pay state sales taxes and therefore would not pay federal sales tax either. This increases their purchasing power. Most people give to charitable causes because it is the right thing to do, not because of a tax write-off. The money given for hurricane relief was not based on tax-incentive, but moral and social concern. Fair Tax is not a tax reduction or a tax increase, but an honest and up-front way of collecting revenue for the federal government. |
