THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary _________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release April 15, 1997 THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC INTEREST OBLIGATIONS OF DIGITAL TELEVISION BROADCASTERS The Clinton Administration is requesting nominations for representatives to serve on the Advisory Committee on Public Interest Obligations of Digital Television Broadcasters. The President will appoint up to 15 members who represent diverse views from the commercial and noncommercial broadcasting industry, computer industries, producers, academic institutions, public interest organizations, and the advertising community. Members will be asked to provide advice to the Administration on the public interest obligations that digital television broadcasters should assume. The members will be appointed for the duration of the Committee, which is expected to make its report by mid-1998. All interested organizations and individuals are encouraged to submit a nomination. Nominees should have the relevant experience, education, and training to determine and evaluate the complex issues surrounding the public interest obligations of digital television broadcasters. Nominations offered by an organization should be so identified. Nominators must fill out forms that can be obtained from Patrice Washington, of the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration, at 202-482-7002 or by sending an e-mail to pwashington@ntia.doc.gov. Nominations will be accepted until April 29, 1997. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, an agency within the Commerce Department that serves as a principal advisor to the President and the Executive Branch on domestic and international telecommunications, will serve as the secretariat for this Advisory Committee.
