STATEMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT GORE ON GOVERNMENT'S FIRST PERFORMANCE-BASED ORGANIZATION

Washington, D.C. -- I am pleased that the government's first performance-based organization (PBO) is beginning its work at the U.S. Department of Education and that Greg Woods will head it up and report directly to Secretary Riley.

Reflecting our efforts to reinvent government, the new PBO will revolutionize the delivery of financial aid services by responding to ever-changing market forces so that students all over America have more access to, and information about, these critical resources. With the establishment of this PBO, the Education Department will set the stage for more results-oriented management structures within the federal government, enabling us to provide even better service to students, colleges, financial institutions and taxpayers.
