NATIONAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW TO TAKE ACCESS AMERICA ON THE ROAD
Goal Is To Improve, Encourage Internet Access To Government Services By Year 2000

The U.S. government's "reinventing government" task force, the National Performance Review (NPR), will launch a series of informational conferences aimed at providing government employees and private industry IT officials with techniques and strategies for implementing the goals of Access America. Access America is an NPR report outlining steps to encourage and increase citizen and business access--via the Internet--to the most commonly requested government services by the year 2000.

The conferences--to begin November 3, 1997 in Baltimore, MD--will be held in U.S. cities with a major federal presence to minimize government travel costs. Registration preference will be given to attendees in the immediate region of each conference.

The one day sessions will feature strategies for increasing electronic access to government services. Expert panels will discuss IT topics, including Internet/Intranet successes, the future of Distance Learning and collaboration, IT acquisition and procurement reform, and privacy and security. A special feature at each conference will be a "demo-lab" where participants can get hands-on experience with state-of-the-art software and web applications.

Both government agencies and private industry information technology suppliers will exhibit products and services at each site.

Conference locations, dates, and more detailed information are available at conf.npr.gov
