High Impact Agency Goal Update

The following table summarizing just two of our major goals to provide better service to our customers, along with our accomplishments thus far in achieving these goals.

Goal 1 Develop an integrated, nationwide outdoor recreation information system that will give all Americans quick and easy electronic access to information about recreation on federal lands, recreation use permits, and reservations.
Accomplishments Developed Recreation.gov, a one-stop source for information about recreation on federal lands. Recreation.gov has been very successful, including these accomplishments:
  • Received a Hammer Award in April 1998.
  • Recognized by Government Executive Magazine as one of the top 15 web sites of the federal government
  • Involves 8 different agencies spanning 4 different cabinet departments
  • Over 8 million visits to the site since its inception
  • New upgrades on the way, including information on accessibility to recreation sites for people with disabilities
Goal 2 Provide one-stop shopping for information, permits, and other frequently requested over-the-counter products and services at Forest Service and BLM facilities.
Accomplishments Initiated Service First, a partnership to provide seamless, one-stop shopping in a convenient, efficient and effective way. Service First has been beneficial to both our customers and the BLM and Forest Service. Some of our successes include:
  • 628 collaborative, innovative, and collocated offices with other natural resource agencies (state and federal). This is a tremendous increase from the 363 in FY 1999. We have exceeded our goal of reaching 600.
  • Joint permitting-We have recently been granted the authority to issue joint permits. The BLM and Forest Service will pilot joint permit efforts in the near future.
