distributions made to wasit province for area projects
Al Kut, Wasit. The Coalition
Provisional Authority South-Central provided more than $804,400 (1.45 billion
Iraqi Dinars*) for community projects in Wasit Province.
The money will be used to repair the
police station and training facilities, the water works, the radio and
television station, the sports and youth club, a bridge, and a frozen food
warehouse. The project money also included funds to assist with police
uniforms.
CPA believes a good educational system is
essential as Wasit Province progresses toward self-government, so CPA provided
$304,500 ($5.48 million Iraqi Dinars) for 609 schools. Each of the 609 schools
will receive $500 (900,000 Iraqi Dinars*). Repairing and improving these
schools creates a better learning environment for children and increases
opportunities for their futures as they learn in a free Iraq.
Assisting the people in the Wasit Province
is an important goal for the Coalition Provisional Authority. These Wasit
Province community projects will employ local people from the community.
It is part of a larger initiative to help
Iraqis as they move forward toward democracy. CPA South-Central will announce
other projects in the coming weeks.
* Assuming
$1 equal 1,800 Iraqi Dinars.
