The Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) announced today that the deadline
for applications for licenses to run mobile telephone systems in Iraq
has been extended by one week to Aug. 21, 2003.
In addition, CPA will announce tomorrow modifications to the rules governing
the competition. These changes are being made in response to feedback
from prospective applicants at CPA’s telecom tender conference Thursday
in Amman.
The extra week will allow applicants to assure that their tender meets
the rules in the modified statement of objectives, said Amb. Darrell Trent,
CPA’s senior advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications,
who made the announcement.
The competition will lead to the issuing of licenses for the provision
of mobile telecommunications services in Iraq. CPA will award up to three
licenses, one each for northern, central and southern Iraq.
