Cassidy Sehgal-Kolbet, to serve on the Federal Trade Commission Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security on behalf of MaMaMedia, Inc. (MaMaMedia). MaMaMedia has been actively involved in the debate about collection of personally identifiable information online and has taken the lead in protecting children's privacy online. While MaMaMedia creates online content and tools primarily for a child audience, I believe that MaMaMedia can offer an important perspective on implementing privacy protections for general audience sites as well. In addition, I have recently joined MaMaMedia as Associate Counsel after serving as staff attorney for the Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. At CARU, I worked with numerous companies to develop fair information practices and sought compliance by industry with the CARU Self-Regulatory Guidelines on Interactive Media, governing online collection of personally identifiable information. Thus, I have a strong understanding of the process involved in establishing fair information practices. I believe that my experience, coupled with MaMaMedia's interest in promoting public confidence in using the Internet, will be of use to the Committee in devising reasonable standards to implement fair information practices.
