By this letter I wish to nominate Robert C. Chesnut to the Advisory
Committee on Online Access and Security of the Federal Trade Commission.
Mr. Chesnut is currently the Associate General Counsel of eBay Inc.
Mr. Chesnut's qualifications include more than eleven years as an
Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
During his tenure as an AUSA, Mr. Chesnut handled a number of espionage
prosecutions including the prosecutions of Aldrich Ames and Harold
Nicholson. Mr. Chesnut also prosecuted a number of computer and internet
related cases including cases of telecommunication and access fraud.
At eBay, Mr. Chesnut is responsible for all issues concerning site
access and security. You will find below the text of his most recent
resume.
I believe that Mr. Chesnut would add a great deal to the
deliberations of this Advisory Committee.

- ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL, 1999-PRESENT, EBAY INC. Responsible for
all litigation matters and interaction with all levels of law
enforcement. Additional responsibilities include management of all
customer service escalations with regard to litigation and
impermissible items.

- ASSISTANT UNITED STATES ATTORNEY, 1988-1999, Eastern District of
VA Chief, Major Crimes Unit, supervising 20 attorneys and support
staff in major felony prosecutions. Handled espionage prosecutions
including Aldrich Ames and Harold Nicholson. Prosecuted complex
cases involving telecommunications fraud, compliance with government
regulations, bank fraud, computer and Internet related fraud, money
laundering, trademark infringement, and violent crime. Numerous
felony jury trials, motions, and appeals. Received Justice
Departments John Marshall Award for Litigation, highest litigation
award in the Justice Department. Awarded Intelligence Community Seal
Medallion.

defense of numerous federal statutes and programs. Lead trial
