Barbara J. Williams Donald S. Clark, Secretary Re: FTC Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security Dear Mr. Clark: I am an attorney and currently a candidate for an LL.M. degree in Health Law from the University of Houston. The issue of privacy of health records and health care information on the internet is of vital concern to patients and the health care industry. John Halvorsen is forwarding to you an article which I recently wrote on the issue of integrating health information on the Internet and the tension with privacy. As my resume (being sent to you separately) reflects, I have also written on on the subject of the National Insurance Commissioner Model Act on privacy. Additionally, I am writing my thesis on the issue of databases and privacy. I am fully familiar with the use of personally identifiable information in the health law and educational law contexts. My interests and experience are representative of the law, academic and health care industries on the privacy issues to be considered by the committee. It would be an honor to serve on the FTC Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security. I pledge to you that if nominated for this important task I will attend all meetings, perform all tasks and assume all costs of travel associated with the nomination. Thank you for consideration of my nomination. Very truly yours, Barbara J. Williams |
