Santa Online
Once
upon a time, a retail store in Colorado Springs, CO, advertised
a Santa hotline. The printer got the phone number wrong and
the calls went to Colonel Harry Shoup, Director of Operations
for what was then the Continental Air Defense Command. When
the Colonel got the first call, he didn't miss a beat. He had
his staff check radar to see where Santa was as he made his
way south from the North Pole. His staff gave updates on Santa's
whereabouts to the children who called. When the United States
and Canada formed the North American Aerospace Defense Command
(NORAD) in 1957, they decided to continue tracking this important
annual airborne mission. A few years ago, NORAD put the tracking
system online. Fire up the computer this Christmas Eve and let
the children follow Santa's trip around the globe. |
