Saving
People, Property -
and Cows - in Tillamook County
A
1996 deluge left Tillamook County, Oregon, devastated, with
$53 million in uncompensated losses, 700 dairy cows killed,
families displaced, homes and businesses destroyed. When more
than 9 inches of rain fell on Thanksgiving Day, 1999, the county
was prepared, thanks to motivated people, a partnership, and
an amazingly helpful web-based technology called Geographic
Information Systems (GIS). |

Cool
Calculator
If
you live in Washington State and can get to a computer with
an Internet connection, you can find out if your family might
be eligible to receive food assistance, help with childcare,
medical benefits or cash assistance. This really cool site
calculates basic information about family members and income.
When you've answered the questions, a map pops up to help
you locate the community service office nearest you.
