Alternatives to Tobacco - Jeff Beckington, 10/25/00 11:02AM

As Rod Kuegel said in the Courier Journal a few weeks ago, we can not produce tobacco as cheap as a bare-foot mule riding tobacco farmer in Brazil. Expanding on that, we can not raise corn as cheap as the mid western states, vegetables as cheap as Mexico, nor apples as cheap as China. I hope our small scale and terrain are taken into consideration when the alternatives are discussed. A system of agriculture without production quotas will be the end to farming here in Kentucky.
