Subject: complexity

Comment: What bothers me most is the complexity and obscurity in making out my return. Even with the (added cost) software I use, I find situations that leave me wondering what to do, spending much valuable time trying to figure things out, and all in a process that seems designed to "hide" what's going on in the mathematics, so I end up having no idea whether I'm correct, cheating myself, or cheating the government. Try handling K-1 numbers and you'll see what I mean. It's grossly unfair to present such a complex and opaque process to individuals, and I especially rail at the idea that if I have a complex situation I must be "rich" so I can afford to pay people to handle things. No matter how much money I could have, I would never feel arcane rules and a process that defies understanding are anything but unfair and an assault on the people who pay for government.
