Subject: real tax reform

Comment: Dear Sirs and Madams:
As presidential appointees and experts in your respective fields, I implore you to take advantage of the unique opportunity you have been given by the president to take a global look at the issue of federal tax reform instead of simplying making suggestions for band aid changes to a system that is completely broken. As the recent problems in New Orleans has shown, it is important that real repairs be made to broken systems. I am distressed by the information that I have read about your deliberations. I understand that this panel has taken ideas for federal tax reform, such as the fair tax plan, changed portions of the plan, and then dismissed the plan outright based not on the plan in its original state, but based on your own redesigned idea of the plan. In this day of technologic advances, the ideas and concepts put forth in the Fair Tax Plan could easily be put into place. The Fair Tax Plan would make life MUCH more easy for Americans, as we would not have to concern ourselves with keeping up with all the esoteric tax laws and trying to correctly file our tax forms every year. I'd like to add that these laws are so difficult to understand that citizens can't even get reliable help from the very government that enacts these laws. Different publications have done studies that have shown IRS employees cannot give correct and consistent help to citizens when they call for tax filing help. The Fair Tax Plan would help decrease our federal bureaucracy, simplify the lives of Americans, and stop penalizing hard working people. I know that change can be a frightening concept, but just because it might be different doesn't mean it's not better. I am begging you to PLEASE make every effort to make recommendations to President Bush that would bring about a REAL and POSITIVE change to our current tax system.
