Subject: Federal Income Tax

Comment: Please reconsider replacing the Income Tax with a national sales tax. This is the most important issue in our economy today. When you lose your income for whatever reason and for however long, it is often impossible to ever recover. I personally have lost all my retirement. I also now have a new mortgage that is $50,000 higher than it was. This all because I insisted upon housing, clothing and feeding my family while I looked for sufficient work after the dotcom bust. I'll never be able to afford to retire. None of that would have happened if we had a national sales tax and threw out the Income Tax.

Now, with problems in the Gulf Coast and with the new bankruptcy bill, you're likely to see hundreds of thousands of folks in the same sorry shape I was in - only worse! You might as well bring back debtors prisons - cause figuratively speaking that's where I'll live the rest of my life.

Since I've been a Republican all my life, since your panel was appointed by a Republican president and since lots of Republicans seem to be supporting the National Sales Tax, I have no idea why the panel does not support that option. I'm seriously thinking of voting for change since Republicans seem to have lost their way. This is my only important issue.
