My wife works as a dental hygienist, I as a logistics analyst in support of the War in Iraq. We have supplemental income in the form of my retirement from my first career in the U.S. Navy. When my youngest daughter graduated from the College of William and Mary and started life on her own, I contacted my accountant to see how much more I needed to have taken out of my paycheck to make up for the loss of a tax deduction. Guess what. Our anticipated tax bill for calendar year 2005 will equal (within a couple of hundred dollars) my entire Navy retirement.
