Comment: Within the last 12 months, I've sent over $60,000 to state, federal and local taxing authorities. This total does not include personal property taxes or sales taxes on local purchases. I think tax rates are too high and the tax code too complex but mostly just way too high. I'm self employed and have an office in my garage. I drive a 12 year old rusty car, I live in a 1200 sq. ft. modest home in the Midwest. Some people would think that I make a lot of money, but I have to maintain a very modest life style so I can afford to pay the taxes. I'd much rather be able to spend that money on my family.
