Subject: National Sales Tax

Comment: Yesterday, I sent you folks an e-mail describing my suggestions for replacing all income taxes with a national sales tax. I forgot to add one important point; could you add this to my comments from yesterday?

Add the following:

C. TRANSITION/SPECIAL ISSUES

Another reason for a national sales tax of the form I suggest is to make tax policy independent of all other federal government functions and agencies. Tax policy should stand on its own, and not be dependent on or linked to other parts of the government. Otherwise its too easy for the politicians to try to socially engineer the country, instead of leaving us alone. Also, linking tax policy with any other part of the government makes it more difficult to change or even abolish parts of the government. In the reference example I have cited, HR25, Rep. Linder has linked his proposed national sales tax with the Dep't of Health and Human Services and with the Social Security Administration. This simply expands the federal governement "octopus" and makes it harder to abolish or shrink those agencies in the future. The changes I offered in yesterday's e-mail correct this problem.
