I'm concerned about the ideas for a national sales tax or going to a flat tax. Switching from a federal income tax system to a national sales tax could benefit the middle and upper classes, but what about those who are already exempt from income tax? They would only see prices go up. As for a flat tax, I am concerned that the loss of deductions could cause severe financial hardship for many households. Please make sure that, if the tax system is going to be changed, it will be changed in such a way that the lower and middle classes will not be hurt by it. |
