Subject: Taxable Social Security benefits

Comment: The tax on social security benefits is punitive, complex and penalizes married couples.
It is punitive in that it taxes wages and business income which have already been taxed, retirement pensions, tax exempt interest, offsets and credits, alimony, etc.
It is complex. The benefits worksheet has 18 different calculations that require a math degree or CPA to complete.
It penalizes married couples by allowing an unfair marriage deduction in comparison to that for a single person.
It is simply wrong that my husband's retirement pension is robbed by his own social security benefits and my income.
Thanks for listening. I would like a response.
