Subject: retail sales tax

Comment: I watched the C-Span broadcast in regards to the discussion of a national sales tax. It was mentioned that several countries have tried a national sales tax but all have failed and these countries have gone away from it. That is B.S. I now live in Australia. The Aussies passed a national sales tax about 8 years ago (they call it the GST). It is 10% on everything except must have food (example, milk, bread, etc...). They have zero state income taxes and are now pushing for the states to get rid of all taxes to be replaced by the GST revenue. I loved the comments about making taxes transparent. Knowing that the government costs 23%, having a perfectly simple tax system, getting rid of the IRS, getting rid of tax lawyers and the need to hire a CPA to do your taxes....this all sounds like a no brainer to me. Poor people pay zero tax, rich can't hide with trusts, foundations, off-shore accounts, etc.. Just pass this into law and get on with it. Screw politics and let logic win for a change. This panel is the most important thing going on in Gov right now. Please Please Please push for real change and make a tax system worthy of the USA. I look forward to a great recommendation to the President from you kids and I sincerely hope congress can pull their finger out and make some real changes. Thanks and good luck!
