Subject: Support the FAIRTAX

Comment: The purpose of this email is to urge you to support and co-sponsor the FairTax legislation (H.R. 25 / S. 25).

I've been studying this proposal (and others like the VAT) for over 4 years now and have yet to find anything that is as simple, fair, easy to administer, and as pro-growth as this. All of which are criteria that President Bush put forth for the Advisory panel on Tax reform (http://www.taxreformpanel.gov).
Most people, when they hear "national sales tax" immediately think "regressive". Many of those people have not read or fail to understand the full FairTax plan. I prefer to call it a progressive National Sales tax plan. This proposal is as simple and fair as any tax plan can be and is quickly gaining momentum.
Here are some aspects of the FairTax that I really like -

- It's fair.
A single rate for everyone (23-26%).

- It's progressive.
It's the only tax plan that COMPLETELY untaxes the poor. The progressive nature of this plan is very important and I would not support it without a mechanism that makes it progressive.
With the rebate (prebate) nobody should pay taxes up to the poverty level. This effectively relieves everyone from paying taxes on necessities without actually identifying what is a necessity. As soon as we even think about labeling something a necessity, the lobbyists will come back for another feeding frenzy.

- It's transparent.
Congress will not be able to change the tax rate easily without EVERYONE seeing it at the cash register. This also a reason I don't like the VAT.

- It's a tax lobbyist's nightmare.
Nearly 50% of all lobbyists in Washington are there to because of the Tax code. If we can eliminate the tax lobby, our elected representatives can focus more time and attention to other important issues.

- It's easy to administer.
The burden to collect would be with businesses and the states. The IRS would dwindle from an $8 billion agency to almost nothing.

- It's easy to file.
There will be NO more filing. April 15th will be just another day!

- It's more difficult to evade paying taxes.
Today, it only takes one person to evade taxes. Under the FairTax, it takes two people, business owner and the consumer, to break the law... with very stiff penalties for both parties.

- It's pro-growth.
It encourages savings and investment. Businesses will not have to pay lawyers, accountants, etc. As result, cost of production will drop 20-25%. This will allow US companies to be much more competitive in the world market.

Some advocates of this plan (or similar tax on consumption):
- Alan Greenspan (Chairman, Federal Reserve Board)
- Milton Friedman (Nobel prize-winning economist)
- Dennis Hastert (ex-Speaker of the House)
- Dale Jorgensen (Harvard Economist) along with Stanford, and $22 million worth of research
- 600,000 FairTax volunteers
- 350,000 members of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU)
- 6,000,000 members of the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF)

I'm very confident that any person that understands the ENTIRE FairTax legislation will support it.
Please, support and cosponsor the FairTax legislation (H.R. 25 / S. 25) ... TODAY!!!
