Subject: The FairTax Book

Comment: Dear Panel Members:

When this Panel was formed, my first thought was that the fix was in. Here was a panel of experts spending months and months studying proposals and asking everyone in the country for their input, and for what reason? Was it simply a delaying tactic? Was the Panel really going to listen to the people, or was there a predetermined outcome? I write today to let you know that there is a new book coming out at the beginning of August that is going to make it virtually impossible for the Panel to ignore the idea of replacing the income tax code with the FairTax. Today is June 12, and the book, which will not be released for another six weeks, is already in the top three on the Barnes & Noble Bestsellers List. In fact, for a short time this weekend it took the top slot away from the new Harry Potter book. My point is, regardless of whether or not the Panel sees fit to include the FairTax in its list of recommendations to the President, the popularity of the idea may still be the driver in moving Congress toward passage of the bill. And after all, that is really their job. Yes, it would be nice to have President Bush behind the bill, but those of us who support the bill have always known that the real fight is with the Congress and the Senate. If you still feel that you do not have enough information about the FairTax to support it, I would advise you to contact John Linder's office and ask for an advance copy.

Very best regards,
