Subject: Congratulations!

Comment: To the Members of the Tax Reform Panel:

Congratulations! By your decision to twiddle around the edges of the existing tax code, you have demonstrated that those within the 495 beltway cannot be trusted with making improvements to the burdensome taxes imposed on the American people. You were empanelled by the President to find a solution to the cumbersome and incomprehensible tax code. You have failed miserably to achieve your charter.

The good news, however, is that you have demonstrated beyond doubt that it is the K-Street lobbyists that actually run panels such as yours. I see now that it is up to the American people to use our lobbying power to remove ineffective individuals such as yourselves from positions of influence and power.

The politicians can no longer hide behind the smoke and mirrors of your worthless Tax Reform Panel. True tax reform, which President Bush asked from you will now have to be moved on by our representatives, unless they want to say that real reform is not possible.

A feasible solution, the Fair Tax, has been proposed and is gaining favor with the public. It appears obvious that you overlooked this option because it removes the power of influence peddlers such as yourselves and the K-Street lobbyists, who make their living fiddling at the edges of the tax code on behalf of their money-wielding sponsors.

Finally, condolences on your failure and the effect it will have on your reputations. Your failure will demonstrate your inability to find a solution from one that was staring you in the face, the Fair Tax. I hope that the President will chastise the lot of you and send you packing, never to be called upon again in the future. I regret that your allegiance to the status quo blinds you to opportunities for improvement of the tax code.

Yours,
Michael H. Myers, Goldsboro, NC
