Subject: National Sales Tax

Comment: I have advocated a National Sales Tax instead of the Income Tax for several decades. I understand that to offset the cost to the poor, it is proposed that a monthly check would be sent to all U.S. Citizens bearing a correct address and a valid SSN. I would favor the tax being imposed on all goods and services repeat services under the rebate conditions above. America is founded on the principle of free choice. A National Sales Tax on all goods and services allows each American to contribute to the support of his government based on his own choice of lifestyle consumption. I would assume that a sufficient rebate amount would be determined to offset the tax on essential, life sustaining goods and services, i.e. food, medicine, health care, housing, and home energy needs. In any plan to reform our tax code, it is paramount to reject the notion that it's costs the government. It's not the governments' wealth -- it is the labour of its citizens and it belongs to them first . Every scheme devised should target how to keep a much of their wealth in their own hands to use and spend as the citizen chooses. The Congress must be made to live within its means just as the citizen must.
