Subject: Released information for simplified tax system

Comment: I read an article in the Orange County Register (So. Cal) on Wed. 10-19-05 and would like to comment regarding the actions and plans that the board is reviewing. I read the article and I believe that you need to get some more basic facts out to the people if you want to have the changes enacted.
1) Let the people know pretty specifically how this will effect them. ie costs to them less tax, more tax etc...
2) Take special interests out of the picture. Accounting and tax preparation firms will be opposed to this because it will affect there bottom line and they will use scare tactics to get the legislature to modify or dilute it so much it won't be effective.
3) Show the cost savings to the people. Show that the percentage that now have their taxes done by someone can save that money and still get the same return or more with much less stress. Show that the IRS can save time and money by the easier forms and processes. (Less Goverment not more)

4) Make sure that the average homeowner knows that this will not hurt him or his children as they are looking to buy a house. This part of the reform could torpedo the entire project. (a co-worker of mine is so against this because he thinks he will lose money due to the interest right changes) I saw comments from Dianne Feinstein regarding how this will hurt California, You will have to address this issue if you want people to support this issue.

I would look forward to hearing more information coming out, especially w/ examples of average couple w/ no kids, average couple w/ 1-2 kids. Singles w/ home owner ship etc.... I really think that if this information is forwarded to the masses they will contact their congress men and senators and this will have a real chance to put forth some real and meaningful changes.

I appreciate your taking it upon yourselves to do this daunting task and my prayers are with you during this challenging time.

Thank you for allowing me the oportunity to voice my commments.
