Subject: Students Need Help

Comment: I am a graduate student who works really hard balancing a full school schedule and working 25 hours per week at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am no tax expert, but you have given me the permission to sound off so here goes:
I don't think it's fair that students are taxed at the same rate that full-time workers are. We are desperate for money enough as it is, paying exorbitant fees and taking out loans for increasingly costly college tuition. Why can't legislation be written that somehow gives us a break? Tax the hell out of us once we get a job and start actually making money, but until then please be merciful and take pity. We're trying to make America a better place too by getting an education. Doesn't that count for something?

In addition, why do you charge a tax for marriage? Doesn't the federal government want to encourage marriage? Isn't marriage considered a good thing? It seems to me that single people are in a much better financial position to pay taxes (as they don't have dependents) compared to married people. It just doesn't make sense. I understand you all need a certain amount of money to run the government, but please consider using common sense when creating and reforming tax laws, and think of the implications that these laws may have on all parties. Thanks very much.
