Subject: National Sales Tax

Comment: I believe a national sales tax would be the most equitable way to assess tax income. But at the same time, I would be opposed to any changes to the home interest and charitable contributions deductions allowed under current law.. If the economy is on a downturn and tax income is lower than budgeted, the government (all agencies; local, state and federal should reduce their spending).

If, by the same token, more income is realized from an economy upturn, the extra income should be placed in a rainy day fund.. The biggest problem with this approach as I see it, is that the congress would use the rainy day fund and thus deplete it and then want to increase
the tax base by raising the sales tax..
