Subject: Tax Code

Comment: The present tax code is a disgrace. So many attempts to satisfy special interests have been inserted through the years that the tax code is now incomprehensible to even the IRS and professional tax preparers.Millions of dollars are spent unproductively by forcing most to get professional help to prepare for paying our taxes.
I am in favor of a simple flat tax on income except investment income and social security with NO deductions for special interest groups(including mortgage interest and charitable contributions) except for dependents and with an income level specified, below which no taxes are due.The return could be post card size and able to be understood by everyone. This would encourage savings and be a tremendous lift to the economy of the US.
Actually ,I would prefer a consumption tax in lieu of income tax, but believe this may be politically difficult to get because of concern for low income people. It actually would be the fairest tax of all.
One of these methods must be developed in the long term interest of our country.
