Comment: I am retired. I worked hard for many years and always paid attention to saving for the future. Although the stock market crash early this decade has hurt my position I am still able to provide a reasonable, not fancy, retirement for my wife and myself. I would like to see the current system symplified however, I feel very strongly that we should not go to a VAT or similar consumption based system. For those of us who saved all our lives, paid our taxes and made the effort to think about our futures, a consumption based tax would be double taxation.
