Subject: Consumption tax

Comment: I will not waste your valuable time with a lengthy dissertation. Here is my three sentence suggestion:

The "underground economy" represents a huge hole in the tax collection bucket. A consumption tax (regardless of the name assigned) would plug that hole and garner very significant amounts of dollars that otherwise escape taxation. Tweaking tax brackets, a "dual rate "plan, altering eligible deductions, etc., do nothing to capture these dollars, which up-to-now escape taxation.
