Subject: Taxing health benefits

Comment: Taxing employees or employers on the health benefits would only cause the number of uninsured to increase. Employees have difficulty paying the high costs of health care now - if they were also taxed many would take their chances and not have insurance. Employers would simply lower the level of coverage they offer. Manufacturing is suffering in the US already - this could cause even more small businesses to simply close. It's easy for the academics and public officials to make these rules for private business - most of them have no clue how difficult it is to find affordable health care. My employer painstakingly reviews this every year to try to be sure our employees have some coverage however it costs us almost $1 million in premiums alone annually.
