Subject: real tax reform

Comment: My hopes and expectations were high when President Bush appointed the tax reform panel. Now I understand that true reform is not in the works because of the nfollowing reports:

1. Only two witnesses supporting a national sales tax have testified. Obviously insufficient to present even a minimal case.
2. This means that the well documented economic growth projections have not been considered, indeed, the solution to the social security solvency problem resides in replacing the barriers to superior economic growth inherent in any form ( progressive or flat ) of income tax and replacing it with a consumption ( retail sales) tax.
3. Most puzzling is the report the panel has focused on a flat income tax and/or a value added tax added on to an income tax.. The outcome of two federal tax codes is easy to predict by the American people. A resounding no!!
4. Beyond any understanding is the report that much time is spent on patching the current system. Hardly a reform in any sense and I believe a failure to carry out the president’s intent in appointing the panel

I sincerely hope that the above reports are not true. Can you tell me they are not in a meaningful way that refutes all the reports?
