Subject: AMT

Comment: I have read that your stated objective is to SIMPLIFY taxes, and you are supposed to address the ludicrous effect of not having indexed the AMT. I have also read that in pursuit of that objective you are considering the replacement of the AMT with taxation of employee health benefits.

THIS IS IRRATIONAL! The obvious answer to the AMT atrocity is to index it to inflation, going back to the year it was first introduced, if you want to preserve the original intent of the AMT. The considered solution does not simplify anything. It reduces taxes for one group of people, and imposes new taxes on everyone.

If you really want to simplify and eliminate the AMT, get rid of all the loopholes which the AMT was designed to address. Go to a FLAT TAX.
